German chemicals supplier Trumpler visited the Institute for Creative Leather Technologies (ICLT) in late 2016 to run its annual Trumpler Week training course for Year 2 BSc students.
The course focused on vegetable tanning, in conjunction with Forestal Mimosa, and the processing of vegetable tanned goats and vegetable tanned Bangladesh kip-sides to provide technical and practical support to the teaching provision of the University of Northampton’s leather course.
This year the Trumpler BIO-range − bio-based products synthesised with collagen hydrolysates derived from recycled chrome shavings − was also highlighted to celebrate ten years since research on these products was initiated.
The students are encouraged to develop their own recipes, produce leather based on them, and then supported through the process and provided with hints and tips on how to get the best out of their raw material.
Harmatan and Oakridge Leathers Ltd. donated EI goat raw material and Blenkinsop Leathers Ltd donated Bangladesh veg kip sides.
