Smit & zoon just announced it is joining the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme and in doing so, supports the Programme’s vision of widespread implementation of sustainable chemistry and best practices in the textile, leather and footwear industries to protect consumers, workers and the environment.
The ZDHC membership fits perfectly with Smit & zoon’s CSR ambition to play a catalysing role in making the leather value chain more sustainable. By joining ZDHC, Smit & zoon commits to working collaboratively on this task and towards the milestones set in the Programme’s Joint Roadmap through active engagement with other brands, retailers and stakeholders.
Hans van Haarst, CEO of Smit & zoon: “We see a lot of synergies between Smit & zoon’s purpose and CSR ambition and the goals of the ZDHC Programme. Being a seventh generation family business, Smit & zoon has a long-term focus and sustainability is naturally top of mind for us. Just like the ZDHC Programme, we feel transparency and collaboration are key principles to lead the industry in environmental responsibility and to establish and implement supply chain improvements. I am therefore confident that our ZDHC contributorship will support us in reaching our joined goals.”
Erik de Potter, Product Safety Specialist of Smit & zoon: “We are continuously working on the development of sustainable and safe new products and processes. All Smit & zoon products comply with the ZDHC Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL), which is highly valued by our customers as it supports them in meeting their customers’ expectations. By joining forces with the other ZDHC contributors we expect to be able to take an important next step to drive industry-wide change in responsible chemical management. “
