National Beef Leathers, have issued the following statement following recent press reports concerning their St Joseph, Missouri operations.
National Beef Leathers, LLC acquired the Prime Tanning operation in St. Joseph, Missouri from Prime Tanning Corp. on March 9 of this year. The due diligence performed prior to the acquisition did not indicate any irregularities with the application of sludge as fertilizer.
National Beef takes this matter very seriously. We care deeply about the health and safety of all the employees of National Beef as well as everyone that lives in the surrounding communities. As such, National Beef is currently conducting a thorough review of this matter and, in an abundance of caution, we have suspended land application of sludge pending the outcome of our investigation.
As soon as we have more information, we will share it.
