The first Fabriktag in Ludwigshafen at the end of January provided a platform for different business units within BASF to come together and engage designers across various industries. Fabriktag, or "a day in a factory" in German, was organized by designfabrik® in BASF, a business unit comprising of designers and engineers which offer support to customers in their design process.
By advising on the right use of material, colours, trends and production processes at the event, BASF was able to help customers think outside the box and be more successful with their designs and applications. Some projects included "Smart Forvision", a forward-looking electric vehicle concept made in collaboration with Daimler, and "Concept 1865", a concept bike incorporating state-of-the-art technology.
The event, which took place on January 30, attracted more than 100 designers representing companies such as BMW, Daimler, Faurecia, Hyundai, Porsche, Puma etc.
Alongside other business units, BASF Leather Chemicals division presented their design inspiration for leather – an elegant car seat along with a variety of premium leather and fashion articles, made from BASF’s latest inspiration catalogue, "Edition Rimini".
Automotive designers were attracted by the refined and natural character of the leather car seat, while other designers were interested in the different finishing effects. Participants appreciated the expertise and advice they received from BASF regarding the various leather articles exhibited.
The Fabriktag is reportedly a successful platform for BASF Leather Chemicals to network and engage brands representing different industries (e.g. automotive, footwear, sports, furniture) on leather designs and inspirations.
