McCartney to launch non-leather range for Gucci

29 June 2001

Stella McCartney, the fashion designer daughter of Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, is to launch her own non-leather and non-fur clothes label with the Italian Gucci empire. It is thought that the new label will become a global brand of women's ready-to-wear and accessories and be targeted at those with anti-fur and anti-leather leanings. The avowed animal rights supporter signed the deal with Gucci in New York in April. Her move to Gucci will see McCartney's creative director role at the Chloe fashion house go to Phoebe Philo who is widely expected to return fur and leather to the Chloe label.
