'Made in' labels

16 February 2003

ICEC, the Italian institute for tanning certification, is preparing some official rules in order to put the label 'made in' onto the leather. ICEC was created by UNIC in 1997 and, in 2001, signed a partnership with DNV, the most important European certification institute. According to ICEC, this label will be important, particularly for the best international manufacturers including the major fashion houses. It will be largely aimed at the US market which is already used to this kind of labelling. In this way, a manufacturing company will be able to put 'made in Italian leather', for example, onto its products and so give them more value and a better image.
