Lineapelle works alongside the industry

The latest edition of Lineapelle will open in Bologna on Tuesday October 17 and will run until Thursday October 19. Exhibitors will display the best collections of hides, components, accessories, fabrics and synthetics for the autumn-winter 2007-2008 season. With 1,324 exhibitors coming from 50 countries, Lineapelle covers a total of 47,200 thousand sq m, and is visited by 23,000 buyers from more than 100 countries, representing an international economic sector worth US$113 billion. The offer of hides and alternative materials anticipates the trends in a large number of consumer goods internationally including shoes, bags, clothing, interior design. This edition of the Bologna fair will also host a fashion show. Models will wear overcoats that are inspired, in both the materials and colours used, by the official trends for the coming winter. Lineapelle will also present a stand dedicated to LP Fashion Studio, the leather documentation centre that opened recently in Milan: stylists and representatives of the manufacturing industry will be able to book a personalised tour to visit the only leather cataloguing centre in Italy, with around 15,000 samples. In addition, Lineapelle offers professional training, with courses for managers, technicians, buyers and designers from companies that visit the fair. This year there will be three training modules, managed by experts in the sector: 'The tanning production process and the characteristics of leather as a product' 'Finished leather: the chemical substances that are subject to restrictions under current legislation', 'Leather clothing: cleaning and maintenance'. The courses that are planned to coincide with the fair. Lineapelle pays special attention to the new generation in the fashion system, with the Young Designers Award, now in it's 38th edition. This initiative began in 1983 and today is one of the most important contests for students from both Italian and foreign fashion and design institutes worldwide, and in recent years it has become more and more international. The prize-winning work and the best selected projects during these award contests will be displayed in a special area in Pavilion 21. Lineapelle will also host two important meetings with sector operators and the media, and both events will be held on Wednesday October 18. The title of the conference is 'Italian tanning districts: the strategic behaviour of companies and institutions, enhancing available resources', organised by the Unione Conciaria (Tanning Union), The meeting will be preceded by a press conference organised by the ICEC. Experts from the 'Istituto di certificazione della qualità per l'industria conciaria' (Institute for quality certification in the tanning industry), will explain how ICEC operates, the certification schemes that are already in operation and the innovative schemes requested by the market.
