Iraq war affects Chinese footwear industry

14 April 2003

Footwear companies in eastern China's Fujian province say the war in Iraq has had a negative impact on their business operations, according to the Xinhua news agency. Local officials say that the war has resulted in an increase in both production and operating costs of companies in Fuzhou, the provincial capital. The main reason for the increased costs is the sharp rise in oil prices, which has raised the prices of raw materials.
