Hides prices reach a ten-year high!

The price of hides is a key market driver in the leather industry. 2010-2011 has seen a dramatic rise in the price of raw material with a further 5-10% increase reported in January 2011 and a continuing strong upward movement through February into March, which has had a major effect within the associated supply chain.
Hide trade expert, Don Ohsman of Hidenet Publications has been invited to offer a perspective on hide pricing and supply trends at the sustainable sourcing event organised in Hong Kong on March 31.
Ohsman will discuss:
- how a handful of producers control hide prices for the most prevalent selections and how that affects the world hide market and consequently the wet blue and crust markets as well
- why prices are so high and possible next step
- the North American hide/wet blue market, and other markets, with particular reference to Brazil
