Government backs leather exporters

The Government of Pakistan has assured its complete support in resolving the issues facing the country’s leather exporters. During a meeting with PTA representatives, the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Chief Executive Tariq Puri said the Government aims to develop the leather sector and its exports.


He said that the Government would strive to bring an end to smuggling and mis-declaration in wet-blue leather exports.
Puri briefed the PTA representatives about the efforts made by TDAP to ease and sort out the problems of leather exporters.
Also, he directed the TDAP’s concerned division to immediately execute the measures recommended by PTA to check mis-declaration smuggling of pickle and wet-blue.
Moreover, he said, the TDAP would urge the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to take necessary steps to check mis-declarations in wet-blue exports.
He assured the PTA representatives that all subsidies of PTA members in relation to exhibitions would be released within a month, while their outstanding claims for lab tests and effluent treatment plants would be paid out upon submission of documents by the PTA members and release of funds by the Ministry of Finance.
