FIS figures down 6%
17 November 2009Federally Inspected Slaughter in the four week period ended May 16, 2009, amounted to an average weekly kill of 658,500 (603,000 in our previous report). This was down 6% on the previous year when the weekly kill averaged out at 708,000.
Combined shipments of raw and wet-blue at 731,700 outstripped FIS in the final week.
Export sales of raw hides during the period under review showed China in their regular top position with 1,414,700 (against 1,041,700, 908,600 in previous reports). With Hong Kong taking 105,400 (55,000, 88,200) the region took a combined total of 1,520,100.
Korea was again in second place with 683,500 (665,500, 522,000, 486,500). Taiwan again came next with 314,100 (247,400, 265,600, 107,400) followed by Italy with 127,500 (a marked improvement on the 12,200, 3,000, 24,900, 7,900, 10,000 and 5,000 of previous reports). Mexico was in sixth place with 98,300 (74,200, 84,800, 75,400, 94,000).
Thailand took seventh position with 96,500 (180,500, 47,100) followed by Vietnam with 83,700 (19,100, 50,400, 21,700, 3,600) and Japan with 48,600 (36,500, 42,100, 80,100). Turkey came next with 16,600.
Canada bought 8,100 (21,100, 10,800, 29,700); Indonesia 5,900; Egypt 5,900; Pakistan 5,500; India 2,000; Indonesia 1,600 and Argentina 1,100.
In addition to the raw hides, 31,900 calf skins were sold to China and 1,400 kips to Japan.
Sales of wet-blue for export during the period under review showed Mexico in the lead with 96,200 (86,400, 87,600, 45,800). Italy was in second position for the second month running with 83,700 (254,900, 6,400, 32,800, 128,800, 90,500, 43,800).
China slipped into third place with 52,000 (300,900, 233,300, 132,800); Indonesia took 37,900; Vietnam 24,400 (39,500, 12,000, 12,900); Thailand 22,400 (32,200, 4,000); Taiwan 16,100 (15,900, 311,100, 14,300); India 2,000; Japan 1,700 and Hong Kong 1,000.
