FGL find the solution

6 February 2006

FGL International say they have found the solution to eliminate free formaldehyde with Permasol TFR (a harmless organic product). Permasol TFR is a limpid liquid able to react in a selective way with free formaldehyde content present in the leather after tanning and retanning operations. It creates a stable compound through a non-reversible reaction. It is easy and convenient to use, doesn't degrade the dyeing and doesn't create the bad smell normally associated with products containing sulfur. It has a selective reaction, converts aldehydes into neutral compounds and eliminates the formaldehyde in the leather. Permasol AM is a white paste softening polymer with an anionic charge which provides a solution to softening without fatliquoring. Used in the retannage process together with a fatliquor it ensures leathers have a good handle and excellent softness. It can be used for the production of nappa, smooth and brush-off articles. Permasol AM is compatible with all anionic charge products normally used in the tannery while the compatibility for mineral and cationic tanning agents should be verified. It is described as harmless and has a light specific weight. It produces good lightfastness, good ageing, good buffing and good linking with finishing products. Permasol 5FS irreversible organic tanning agent is a colourless limpid liquid miscible in water. It is an organic quaternary molecule with an outstanding tanning property. Its bonds to the basic group of the collagen are totally irreversible. Permasol 5FS is a formaldehyde-free product. It can be used in a pH range of 2-5 in order to have good penetration. For fixation, a pH range between 5 and 5.5 is needed. The final basification pH is very important to obtain a soft leather. It provides the possibility of producing chrome-free white leather with good lightfastness and high shrinking temperature values. Permasol 5FS can be used in pretannage, tannage and as a dye fixing agent. It can also be used in finishing as a crosslinker. It is harmless, free from metals and offers clean colours, a high shrinkage temperature and good physical properties. It also offers good value because less quantity is required. It replaces traditional metal, aldehyde and phenolic polymer products.
