European Glove Association formed

3 March 2003

The European Glove Association has been formed with the aim of expanding the European market for all kinds of gloves, regardless of what materials, where from and for what use. All consumer products are promoted and gloves will no longer be an exception to this. The European Glove Association will achieve this aim via an ongoing media promotion campaign designed to create consumer awareness and stimulate the sales of gloves. By growing the market for gloves all companies engaged in the glove industry can benefit. The idea for a European glove promotion came from a group of industry professionals who began discussions in November 2001. A representative Working Party has progressed this idea and has reported progress to the wider glove industry in November 2002. The European Glove Association (EGA) has now been formally registered and promotion work will begin for the autumn/winter 2003 season. The core aim of expanding the market will be achieved via a dedicated media campaign with the sole purpose of promoting the benefits and pleasures for the consumer of wearing gloves. A specialist company with knowledge and experience of public relations will be used to ensure a constant stream of publicity for gloves in all relevant media. The creation of a web site will be an integral part of the EGA's promotional strategy and this will bring companies from all sectors of the glove industry together on-line for the first time, allowing them to improve communication and to facilitate better business. The website will also serve as a research tool for buyers, journalists, designers and consumers. The EGA web site will become a unique glove information portal with the most comprehensive catalogue of glove products ever created. It is anticipated that the web site will be launched in early summer. Membership to the European Glove Association is open to any European company working in the glove trade: retailers, wholesalers, importers, manufacturers, and suppliers (eg leather, fabric, linings, trim) and companies from 14 European countries have joined already. The next EGA meeting will be held during the Lineapelle exhibition, Bologna, Italy, on Wednesday May 7, 2003.
