Colba Tannery ISO certified
8 August 2012Colba Tannery have received the environmental protection and quality accreditation from a UK based ISO Quaar. The accreditation means that Colba is one of the four tanneries with ISO certification.Colba is the only company to receive both certificates at the same time according to the company officials.
The company, which received an ISO 9001/2008 certificate for its quality management system and an ISO 14001/2004 certificate for its environmental management system, is owned by Ayele Dejene.
Colba have a significant share of the export market from Ethiopia in comparison to the other 26 tanneries in the country with export destinations including China, Europe and India.
It is expected that the new accreditation will enhance the marketability of the tannery's products on the international market as quality certification is an increasingly important standard in determining the growth of leather exports according to industry experts.
Other Ethiopian tanneries with similar accreditation are ELICO, Ethiopian Tannery and Dire.
