Cleaner Tannery Technology Seminar at ACLE

The components sector for Brazilian leather and footwear will present new alternatives to Chinese industry on how to reduce environmental impact. The innovations will be presented in the Environment Friendly Supplies Conference on September 6 in parallel with the All China Leather Exhibition, which runs from September 5 to 7, at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. According to William Nicolau, vice-president of technology, Assintecal, 'Environmental technology is gaining ground all around the world, offering not only possibilities of new business for those who produce this kind of product, but providing for an increase in productivity and competitiveness for companies which use these innovations. The partnership for this seminar seeks to expand the use of products which reduce environmental impact of the leather-footwear productive chain.' One of the producers of leather chemicals participating in the seminar is Tanac. The company's representatives will speak about vegetable tannins used in the leather industry. 'In this case, vegetable tannins are produced from extracts obtained from the bark of mimosa trees. They are used both in tanning and retanning of pelts thus avoiding the application of products, such as chromium, which are highly aggressive to the environment', said Paulo Costa, trader for the company. 'We intend to show the possibilities offered by these products to the Chinese industry, which is interested in knowing more about alternatives to reduce the environmental impact of production', concluded Costa. Seta S.A., also from the South of Brazil, will present their own technological innovations including the Compact LETS, developed for use in leather preparation prior to the tanning stage. 'It is a product that prepares the skins for vegetable as well as chrome tanning and eliminates the use of ammoniac and acids at this stage', said Marcio Kreibich, sales technician, Seta. Besides reducing the environmental impact, the product shows a good cost x benefit ratio due to the results obtained. 'The Compact LETS helps preserve the structure of the collagen during the process, thus improving the characteristics of the end product', added Kreibich. In addition to the seminar, the components sector will have an institutional stand at ACLE, company stands and with the Showroom 'by Brazil'.
