Business at second MATECH China

17 April 2003

At the opening ceremony of MATECH China, which concluded on April 4, 2003, in Dongguan, China, Michael Duck of APLF Ltd described the fair as 'a direct bridge between international suppliers and the footwear, leathergoods and travelware manufacturing industries in China.' Business activity over the three-day show bore out the truth of these words. They were confirmed by buyers such as Robert Pallaut de Besset of French company Siam: 'My trip was worth it right from the first day. I met with a large shoe factory and discussed a potential order of several million pairs. I am very satisfied with the concept of this fair which brings us to the factories' doorsteps.' Dongguan is the largest shoemaking centre in China and an important base for manufacturers of bags and travel goods. The show brought an extensive range of products including machinery, technology, components and accessories to Chinese manufacturers who came not only from Dongguan itself but also from other parts of China. Mr Wu of Dali Leather Co Ltd of Guangzhou City reported: '"Business results are beyond our expectations. Among the orders we received were shoes and handbags manufacturers from Henan Province and Wenzhou City.' Exhibitors, who numbered 130, came from Bangladesh, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Taiwan and the US as well as from mainland China. Bangladesh exhibitor Karim Ansari of Karim Leather Ltd said: 'We had an outstanding show. We met with high quality customers ... we received huge orders, in particular one from a European designer of a famous brand producing bags in China.' Cheung Tak Ming, general manager of Xinji Tengyue Industrial Co Ltd, a tannery producing high quality sheepskin for garments and handbags from Hebei Province reported receiving RMB4.8 million worth of orders. 'It is the first time for us to exhibit in MATECH China. Dongguan is a very important manufacturing centre and we have found many potential buyers for our products. We made 20 new contacts during the fair.' Buyers were equally pleased with results. Agop Cemcemmoglu, president of AS Cemcem of Turkey, was among those who placed large orders on the spot. 'I have found several new suppliers of materials in MATECH China.' The third edition of MATECH CHINA will be held from March 24-26, 2004, at the same venue, Guangdong Modern International Exhibition Center, Dongguan.
