Nike to Expand Vietnam Production
According to their chief sustainability officer, Noel Kinder, Nike is committed to investing and expanding production in Vietnam. He expressed this in a recent meeting with Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow. Kinder told Chinh more than 100 Nike factories in the country have resumed production following a COVID-induced hiatus. He also said the current situation in Vietnam has improved a lot and the firm is planning to expand operations there.
Stahl achieves certification for its lifecycle assessment systems in partnership with Spin 360
Waalwijk, The Netherlands, 10 November 2021 – Stahl, an active proponent of responsible chemistry, has taken an important step toward realizing its target of having lifecycle assessment (LCA) data for all strategic products by the end of 2023. By working closely together with Spin 360, a tech-enabled sustainability consultancy, Stahl has achieved certification of LCA data generation systems, allowing verifiable information to be collected for its products.
India to Welcome New Leather Park
Chairman of the Leather Industries Development Corporation of India’s Andhra Pradesh State (LIDCAP), Kakumanu Rajasekhar annoucned that plans are underway to set up an international leather park on a 500 acre plot in the state. The Chairman said several foreign companies were showing keen interest for the setting up of the leather park and that the LIDCAP will use it to help struggling communities bounce back following five hard years. The people of these communities have been consistently looked over when it comes to sanctioning loans, he pointed out.
Kanpur Testing Lab Will Boost Leather Exports
India’s Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Anupriya Patel, laid the groundwork for an International Testing Laboratory in Kanpur on Saturday. The lab was set-up per the MoU signed between the Central Leather Research Institute (CSIR- CLRI), an institution under Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the KLC Research Council.

Swiss to Invest in Bangladesh Leather Sector
According to Switzerland’s ambassador to Bangladesh Nathalie Chuard, entreprenuers from the country are interested in investing in Bangladesh’s leather sector. A Swiss envoy shared the information in a meeting with Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun at the latter’s office in Dhaka. During the meeting, it was agreed that the countries could work together on issues such as patents, designs, trademarks of products and services, and geographical indication products for the protection of intellectual property.

Bangladesh Leather Industry Authority Proposed
Speakers at a Task Force meeting in Bangladesh recently proposed to set up a Leather Industry Authority under the industry’s ministry to develop the sector and solve some of its problems. The proposal came at the fourth meeting of the Task Force on Recommendation for Development of Leather Industry and Formulation of Action Plan at the ministry, an official release said.
