Bangladesh leather, leather goods exports aim for $12 billion by 2030
The Bangladesh government plans to boost leather and leather goods exports to US$12 billion by 2030, officials said.
France – Cabot tannery closes
The French tannery Cabot di Fougères closes definitively after more than a century of activity. On Thursday 24 February, all movable property owned by the company will go to auction. As reported by magazine.interencheres.com, on Thursday 24 February, the auction house SCP Gauducheau Jezequel will sell 367 lots owned by the company. These include large stocks of processed calf and kid leather lying in the company’s warehouses in Fougères.
Argentina: 30 tanneries to relocate to Lanus industrial park

Turkey’s leather exports up in 2021
Turkey’s leather exports accounted for 0.8% of the country’s total exports in 2021. Compared to 2020, leather exports increased by 29.6% in 2021. For Turkish finished leather and wet blue exports, India was the biggest market with a share of 14.5%. Italy was second with 12% and Germany third with 7.9%.
Brazil’s hide exports up by 45% in value in 2021
Exports of hides and skins in December, presented by SECEX (Secretary of Foreign Trade) of the Ministry of Economy, totaled US$121.5 million. This is 17.6% higher than the same month in 2020, when US$103.3 million were exported. The value is also 20.6% higher than in November when exports totaled US$100.7 million.
Three Tannery Parks Planned in Bangladesh
The Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) is planning to build three more leather industrial estates in the next five years, which will create more than 400,000 jobs. The plans come as a response to what they see as the administration’s failure to make the Tannery Industrial Estate built on the bank of the Dhaleshwari river in Savar functional. Under the plans, the BSCIC wants to establish a leather industrial park on the 200 acres of land next to the Industrial Estate, to be used for the processing of raw hide and backward linkage.
