Walking tall – the Global Softlines Seminar Roadshow

Under the banner, ‘Walking Together to Tackle the Challenges in the Footwear and Leather Industry’, experts in the field of leather and footwear production appeared at events in India, Indonesia, Vietnam and China in May 2015, for a seminar series for the footwear and leather industry tour of Asia. Paul Bridge, SGS global business development manager for leather and footwear, and Dr Andrew Hudson, SGS global technical head for leather and footwear, the Global Softlines Seminar Roadshow organisers, give a round-up of the event.

Continental shift – Première Vision Leather

Paris is world renowned for its status as a fashion and culture capital and, as such, the most exclusive show in the leather calendar, Première Vision Leather, will take place 15–17 September at Nord Villepinte, highlighting future trends and designs, and introducing the inaugural PV Awards for leather.

All together now – All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE) 2015

Despite a shift in the calendar, All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE) 2015 still remains the biggest event in the leather diary and this year looks set to continue the trend as visitors come from across the globe to meet industry players in Shanghai from 31 August to 2 September.

Don Ohsman’s view from the US

The difference in the market since the last report could not be more dramatic. Starting in the waning days of July, led by heavy Texas steers, the market found a bottom and prices began to turn around. As we go to press, these same heavy Texas, which are the most prodigious US selection, bounced from a low of $65 C&F for distressed sales up to as high as $72–74 C&F on 60/62lb. There were also stronger prices on most selections.

Saving the date – ACLE organiser Michael Duck

It has been a frantic time for ACLE and organiser Michael Duck, not just because he broke his arm during a rigorous game of tennis, but also because of the late-in-the-game date change thrust upon the event due to a Chinese national holiday.
