PTA blames government for neglecting leather sector

Pakistan’s leather exports have declined during the past five years due to inconsistent policies and neglecting attitude of the government towards the sector and the poor law and order situation, according to a working paper by the Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) released on November 9.

Nissan Motors are working on a material for their car seats that will replicate the texture and softness of human skin. The project called Premium-fEEL interior concept (PEEL) has seen engineers carry out detailed studies of what provides the sense of touch with a comfortable sensation. They discovered that nothing matches the comfort and tranquility associated with the feel of human fingers against the body.

Asian leather technicians to gather in Taiwan

The 9th Asian International Conference on Leather Science and Technology will take place at the Howard International House Hotel in Taipei, Taiwan, November 12-14. The 9th AICLST is the leading technical conference in Asia and is held every two years.This years conference will be hosted by the Taiwan International Leather Association (TILA) and some 250 delegates from all over Asia are expected to attend as well as invited international guests and speakers.

AAFA publish latest restricted substance list

The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) have published their eleventh edition of the AAFA Restricted Substances List (RSL), covering apparel, footwear, travel goods, home textiles, and other fashion accessories. The updated RSL was released ahead of AAFA’s International Product Safety and Environmental Compliance Conference in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on December 5, 2012.

Chemical spill at Tasman Tanning

Two people remain in a critical but stable condition at Wellington Hospital over the weekend after being exposed to hydrogen sulphide in a chemical spill at a the Tasman Tanning plant in Wanganui on November 2.

Uber family to restart hunters’ tannery

Members of the Uber family announced at the end of October a deal to buy back and restart their namesake Uber Tanning Co. in Owatonna, Minnesota which for more than a century took in hunters’ rawhides and turned them into custom clothing and accessories.
