Next UITIC footwear congress to be hosted by CLIA

UITIC (International Union of Shoe Industry Technicians) will organise their 18th International Technical Footwear Congress in Guangzhou, China on November 13-16, 2013. The next UITIC will be organised and hosted by the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA).

DuPont survey shows Chinese consumers want green products

A new survey released on December 5 by international chemicals group, DuPont revealed a growing understanding of green products among urban Chinese consumers. 70% of these consumers expressed confidence in the environmental claims of green products. The findings reflect the potential for green products in the world’s largest consumer market and how this demand could help China meet its sustainability targets. 

Leather industry warning of fake vegetable extracts

The Tanning Extract Producers Federation Limited (TEPF) has issued the following statement relating to fake vegetable tanning extracts that have been made and recently marketed to the tanning industry.
“The use of vegetable extracts in blends is not a new phenomenon and has been around for many years and many of the vegetable extract producers themselves manufacture such products.

“Up and up it goes, and where it stops nobody knows” is an appropriate quote in today’s market environment. In discussions with industry members, all are baffled by the continued strength in raw material prices, especially in the US, but, as it already does, it all really comes down to supply and demand.

EU renew tariff on chamois leather from China

Violence erupts at leather goods factory

At least 50 guards and workers of an export-oriented leather factory in Bangladesh were injured when several hundred garment workers attacked the company’s premises and vandalised six of its vehicles in Ashulia on December 1.
