Libya to supply slaughterhouse and tannery
According to a report published on the website of the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) arrangements have completed at Obied airport in Sudan to receive on September 12 a Libyan plane carrying engineering equipment for establishment of modern slaughterhouse considered as a major Libyan-Sudanese investment project on exportation of slaughtered animal from the North Kordofan State.

In the first half of 2012, the Chinese leather industry, a traditional export trade industry is showing signs of slowing as it enters into a critical period aimed at upgrading their leather and leather products to produce more medium and high value added products.

Leather Naturally to educate consumers about leather
Stakeholders and other interested parties met at the All China Leather Exhibition in China last week to outline the initial results of the research work carried out so far and to recruit new members. Leather Naturally is seeking to promote leather as a material to the end consumer as well as reaching out to designers and stylists.Mike Redwood, Leather Naturally co-ordinator said that the initial phase of the research had identified leathers strengths and weaknesses and that the next phase of the campaign to target the consumer through social media and other traditional forms of the media would begin in the next 6-12 months. Results of the initial research were given to LN members in a private meeting in Shanghai.

In line with their rising income the people of China are now also developing a taste for higher quality consumer goods – and this is also the case with clothing, shoes and bags. In the shoe sector alone experts anticipate the market share for shoes in the mid to high-end price range to rise from the current 60% level to 70% in 2020 – with the premium segment looking to expand disproportionately here. Demand for collections designed in Europe is correspondingly high.
500 exhibitors at Modacalzado

Haryana Leather Chemicals from India have informed shareholders that the Board of Directors of the Company at their annual general meeting held on August 25, 2012, inter alia have recommended a dividend at Rs. 0.60 per share (ie. 6.00%) out of the profits of the financial year ending on March 31, 2012 on 49,08,470 equity shares of Rs.
Record Brazilian presence gets results at ACLE
Brazilian leather was one of the highlights of the All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE) held in Shanghai, China, between September 4-6. Through the Brazilian Leather Project, Brazil had 16 companies participating at the 2012 edition of ACLE – the largest group from the country to-date. The record number of Brazilian tanneries at ACLE showed not only the quality of Brazilian leather to the international market, but also the sustainability process and production efficiency of the Brazilian national tanning industry.
Successful first CICB Sustainability Forum
The first CICB Sustainability Forum took place in the Fenac Exhibition Center in Novo Hamburgo and sparked great interest in Brazil’s leather sector while searching for solutions and positive results for both reducing environmental pollution as well as for improving the economics of industrial processes. The event took place on August 29 with a whole day of presentations and debates with the leading specialists from Brazil taking part and discussing topics such as water management, handling of residues and legislation.
South Asia leather association (LIASA) is formed
A two day leather industry event of the South Asian countries particularly, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka was held in Chennai in early September aimed at “strengthening the competitiveness of South Asia in leather and leather products”. Leading policy makers, industrialists and others from each of these countries participated and discussed strategies to combat the raw material shortage and price crunch due to recession in European markets and create a regional brand image.
