APLF to return in a Special Edition in Dubai
After a gap of three years since its last edition in Hong Kong in 2019, the world’s leading and most international trade fair for the leather industry, APLF, is set to return as a Special Edition in Dubai, UAE, to be held at the Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC) from 30 March – 1 April 2022.

Sicarev investing €16 million in slaughterhouse renovation
The Sicarev cooperative group is making a major investment in its Tradival subsidiary in Fleury-les-Aubrais (Loiret). It will invest €16 million to automate production and regulate the temperature in the slaughterhouse.

Portugal approves leather decree
Portugal has approved a leather decree. Published in the official gazette on January 4th,. Decree 3/2022 defines the term “couro” and the possibilities of its commercial use . Thus it outlaws certain expressions, such as vegan leather and synthetic leather, that are incorrect from a technical point of view and misleading for the public. The law provides for fines and criminal proceedings for offenders.
Mensa Brands Expands into Leather
India’s leading tech-led house of brands, Mensa Brand, has announced a partnership with Kolkata-based leather goods manufacturer and seller, Estalon. Estalon offers affordable, genuine handcrafted leather products, exhibiting beautiful traditional Indian craftsmanship. The acquisition marks Mensa Brands’ first foray into the growing leather goods segment, which holds immense potential in both domestic and international markets.
Pakistan Leather Exports on the Rise
Pakistan’s leather goods exports witnessed an increase of 11.03% during the first five months of the current financial year (2021-22) as compared to the exports of the corresponding period of last year. Pakistan exported over $266m worth of leather goods during July-November (2021-22) against the exports of $240m during July-November (2020-21), showing a growth of 11.03%. Philippine Leather Goods Manufacturers Given Tax Relief
In order to aid shoemakers and other leather goods manufacturers in the country’s “Shoe Capital” during the Covid-19 pandemic, Marikina City Mayor Marcelino R. Teodoro signed an ordinance providing tax relief to all shoemakers in the city, meaning they will get a discount from business tax and permit fees for five years.
