The Bergi Group, one of the world’s leading innovators of tannery machinery, have created a spray finishing cabinet, which is completely ‘dry’ inside. Ecotiss has a filtering system that is completely dry and does not require any flow of water.

The running costs are the same or slightly less than water-based filtering systems. The new filter does not become clogged and, according to Bergi, never needs to be cleaned. The VOC content is less than 3mg/m3 and is below European Union regulation limits. The company are anticipating being able to reduce the airborne emissions to less than 2mg/m3 in the future.

The new Ecotiss spray unit has a smaller internal area than traditional units and the new device is able to control the spray pressure and, therefore, the amount of product applied to the leather. Bergi claim that the new filter is able to work with a wide range of finishing materials just like conventional spray finishing booths.

Bergi have constructed ten machines and they have been in tanneries in Arzignano. Once the data has been collected and analysed Bergi intend to construct the new cabin in 2004. If successful, Ecotiss will be an environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional spray finishing methods.
