More than 200 Sensors, the SATRA-developed temperature and humidity monitors for the footwear industry, have now been sold worldwide. The pocket-sized device was introduced by SATRA in 200l and Pentland Chaussures’ purchase of two, plus a downloadable data-reading device, represents a sales milestone for the UK-based technology centre.

Gareth Brooks, Pentland Chaussures’ supply chain director, says: ‘The capabilities of Sensor were drawn to my attention when I last visited SATRA, Tom Bayes, who has been developing and promoting the system, extolled its virtues and impressed me sufficiently to realise that Sensor has great benefits. ‘My sourcing managers in Vietnam and Thailand now each have one of the new Sensors to help monitor the heat setting process during upper conditioning in their respective factories. They will help us to improve the quality and consistency of Lacoste Footwear.’

Sensor can also measure the heat and humidity within containers of footwear during long-distance travel. It detects as and when changes in these conditions could have affected transit problems such as discoloration of the upper or weakness of the sole bond.
