The reopening of this unit is possible because Independecia have reaffirmed their commitment to the beef-chain welfare and the intention to pay off debts to cattle producers, other suppliers and financial creditors.  Independencia closed all their plants and cut 6,200 jobs since filing for protection from creditors under the local equivalent of US Chapter 11 bankruptcy law in February. Since then, Independencia has been working to reopen plants. The company recently restarted their Janauba meatpacking plant in Brazil’s Minas Gerais state, according to Dow Jones.  Source: Meatingplace.com
