Following APLF in Hong Kong, S M Naseem, chairman of the Pakistan Tanners Association, told Leather International that a large number of orders were booked during the show which amounted to around US$10 million. He also said that a good number of orders/enquiries were under negotiation and that he was optimistic they would materialize and make good business. It is expected that Pakistani exporters will benefit as a result of Pakistan taking part as focus country this year.

Naseem was the chief guest at the inauguration of the show, which he termed as a red letter day for Pakistan. He said there was a considerable increase in the number of visitors and buyers compared to previous occasions.

This was the 20th year of APLF Show and as Pakistan was the focus country, PTA members got extra benefits displaying their products. The APLF is considered to be one of the most important exhibitions in the region.

In the opening press conference Naseem said that Pakistan offers tremendous opportunities for investment in leather for technical collaboration with low cost of production. He said that Pakistan is among only a few countries of the world where exports and imports of leather are allowed without any restrictions and duties.
