The Nepszabadsag daily in Budapest reports that Hungary’s Environment Minister, Miklos Persanyi, has summoned the Austrian Ambassador to Hungary in order to discuss discharges from the Boxmark leather factory adjacent to the Raba river in Austria, according to the Interfax news agency. The report said that water flowing into Hungary from Austria is polluted with chemicals used by the factory. Persanyi said that if the Hungarian authorities do not see a considerable improvement in the Raba’s water quality by May 2007, action will be taken by the Hungarian government concerning the use of the river’s waters by Boxmark.

The report has not been confirmed with Boxmark or the Hungarian Environment ministry.
