He was addressing at the ground breaking ceremony of 5 MGD (million gallon daily) water supply project to supply water to the leather industries. The Governor instructed the officials concerned to take up construction of a drainage system and removal of solid waste from the area should be completed simultaneously so that overflowing sewage would not tarnish the repaired road network.
He said that his government gives every priority to the industrial sector in Karachi and for that purpose he allocated and released an amount of rs40 million ($423,000) from his special discretionary fund.
The Chairman, PTA (SZ) M Khurshid Ahmed apprised the Governor about the pathetic road network and non-existent drainage system in the area. He said that entire road network in the Tannery Zone has become dilapidated while most of the roads have been encroached upon. Khurshid Ahmed said that following an operation against illegal hydrants the water supply to the industry has been stopped while lines has yet to be released water by KWSB.
Administrator KMC Muhammad Husain Syed said that phase one of the construction of road network, drainage system and lifting of solid waste from the area has been prepared and it would cost rs80 to Rs100 million ($845,000 to 1.05 million) which would be obtained from Sindh’s Annual development Programme. Managing Director KWSB Misbah Uddin Farid while spelling out the detail of the water supply project said that two million gallons of water would be supplied through a RO (reverse osmosis plant and 3 million gallons to be supplied through a water pipeline from a Pipri source.
