Leather Chemicals manufacturer Smit & Zoon has published its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report for 2019, highlighting the company’s environmental and social achievements.
The report is describing the progress the company is making towards its mission ‘to create a socially and environmentally sustainable leather supply chain by 2025’, while also looking at the company’s challenges for the near future. Knowing that ‘a drop can make a difference’, Smit & Zoon is aware that business success is always connected to care for the environment and the people involved. This is reflected by the highlights of the 2019 CSR report, including the ZDHC Conformance Level 3 certifications for our factories in the Netherlands, the huge steps made by our innovation team in developing biobased products, and the Ecovadis Silver rating we achieved.
Despite the current COVID-19 crisis, Smit & Zoon will in 2020 continue to create a fully sustainable leather supply chain. As a global company, Smit & Zoon is experiencing the consequences of this worldwide crisis in all its offices, plants and activities and is showing the resilience needed to counter this new situation.
Hans van Haarst, chief executive: “Together with our team, our customers and leading brands, we made significant progress in 2019. By successfully upcycling hides, a byproduct from the meat industry, into a long-lasting material with unique characteristics, we are helping society to move towards a circular economy. I am proud of our achievements in 2019 and look to the future with great confidence. We will continue our investments in improving the leather value chain.”
