Bridge of Weir, the only leather manufacturer for the automotive industry in the UK, will celebrate a new collaboration with Volvo’s new concept car, the Concept Estate, at the opening of the 84th Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland this week.
Bridge of Weir’s low-carbon leather has been specified by Volvo for its top specification models for 30 years. The latest concept vehicles from Volvo’s new chief of design Thomas Ingenlath continue a preference for the world’s leading and most environmentally conscious interior leather.
Following the first two concepts — the Concept Coupé and Concept XC Coupé — the Concept Estate carries on the new exterior design concepts, but as a first, it reveals how a new interior will both look and function.
"The first four decades of the Volvo history was characterized by classic craftsmanship and high quality materials. We are merging this vital part of our brand DNA with the more recent focus on technology and smart functionality," said Robin Page, director, interior design for Volvo Car Group. "In the Concept Estate we also add the creative side of Scandinavia. The result is an exotic interior with genuine materials and beautiful detailing."
Bridge of Weir Chairman Jonathan Muirhead added: "We are very proud of our long-standing association with Volvo, and congratulate the design team on the revolutionary and multi-award-winning new concepts revealed over the past 12 months. The latest Concept Estate here in Geneva today is no exception, and Bridge of Weir is delighted to have its luxurious low carbon leather selected for the car, which is another sure fire winner from Volvo."
