The Czech Footwear Association (COA) reports that the Czech Republic manufactured 11 million pairs of shoes in 2002, a fall of 12% compared with the previous year, according to the CTK news agency’s Business News.
Shoe exports fell from 11.5 million pairs in 2001 to 10 million pairs last year, when imports totalled around 36 million pairs. The main reasons for the fall in Czech footwear production in 2002 were the strong value of the Czech crown and large-scale imports of cheap shoes, especially from Asia.
