Melbourne was the venue for BLC’s recent annual Australasian seminar attended by 50 delegates from Australia and New Zealand representing tanners, chemical suppliers and research institutes.
Presentations covered a wide range of areas including: raw stock issues; the impact of bio-processing on the leather industry; new innovations in chemical processing; solid waste management; legislative and commercial influences on the global position, reviewing work carried out at BLC as well as looking at new research.
Of particular interest were issues related to the increasing impact that China is having on the leather industry and the effects at all levels of the industry of restricted substance legislation, voluntary eco-labels and environmental pressure groups.
This annual event forms part of BLC’s global communication programme, keeping members around the world in touch with research, technology and commercial issues which affect the leather industry.
