With the Turkish doubleface season decelerating, many tanneries are working at only half strength. Others are no longer able to sustain prolonged periods of inactivity. About 1,000 tanneries are currently operating in Türkiye.
However, the prudent businessmen and industry veterans stand out prominently and, by comparison, are steaming ahead. One of these is Sen Deri ve Konfeksiyon of Istanbul. They have increased garment production by about 40% at their existing Istanbul facility. They produce high quality lambskins and turn out 125,000 high fashion jackets for men and women annually.
Company owner, Erdogan Sen, said he has invested $1.8 million in upgrading the machinery in his Corlu tannery. Finances look good too with turnover at $55 to $60 million, up from $27 million a year ago.
