German chemical producers Dr Boehme have launched new emulsifying agents for fatliquoring high-grade automotive leather. The Cutapol System, comprising sys-A (anionic) and sys-C (cationic) gives extraordinary fastness values, particularly light fastness. The product is suitable for the production of light colours and pastel shades. It can also be used for dark colours as it does not have strong bleaching effects.
The Cutapol Sys System has proved especially successful when fatliquoring chrome-tanned automotive and upholstery leathers as it gives a soft handle and outstanding firmness, fine and even milled grain, very good heat yellowing fastness, excellent gravimetric and reflecometric fogging values.
This system also provides good uniform dyeing giving evenness across the belly to the centre of the hide, a pleasant neutral smell and a low specific weight. The Cutapol System can be added in production of car seat and leather upholstery up to 18% based on shaved weight.
Cutapol sys-A is an anionic fatliquor composed of ester sufonates and has an active ingredient concentration of 56%. It is resistant to anionic, synthetic and vegetable tannins as well as anionic resins in usual working concentrations.
The product comes in an orange-red liquid form and is easily mixable. In 10% aqueous solution, its pH value is approximately 5.0. It can be diluted with water in any proportion. It has been designed for use in combination with Cutapol sys-C.
Cutapol sys-C is composed of fatty acid esters, having an active ingredient concentration of 100%. The product is a red coloured, cationic liquid. Ten parts of Cutapol sys-C are stirred into 90 parts Cutapol sys-A. The blend is then diluted to application concentration.
