Tanneries and locations: Ecco Leather have four tanneries located in Europe and Asia. The R&D headquarters with 50 people is also based in Holland.

Production: With an annual production volume of 40 million square feet Ecco Leather specialise in processing all types of bovine leathers and some ovine leather for footwear upper, garment and upholstery end-uses. Ecco process from raw to finished but include two beamhouses for the production of wet-blue and wet-white leathers. Approximately 1.5 million hides are processed to wet-blue and 50,000 to wet-white annually. Ecco Shoes, the parent company of Ecco Leather use their own leather in approximately 90% of all their own leather footwear production.

Other information: Being the son of a tanner Panos Mytaros has the leather industry in his genes with his family being in the business for over 100 years. He studied at the tanning school in Reutlingen, Germany before spending 3 years at the Ploem Leder tannery in Germany developing wet-end and finished leathers. He joined the Ecco Group in 1994 based at the company’s plant in Indonesia as a leather technologist. Since 1998 he has been in charge of all the groups leather making responsibilities and led the projects when establishing new tanneries in Thailand, Holland and China.
Ecco pride themselves on being a specialist at producing high-quality, natural leather made with the most environmentally friendly processes. Approximately 20% of their production is produced for high-end brands and 75% is processed from calf and kip with some ox/heifer hides. Ecco Leather aim to produce 100 million square feet of leather per annum with in the next 10 years.
