Argentina
Steers continue to be priced at $0.49/lb, cows at $0.30, and heifers at $0.55. The domestic market is operating at less than 40% of its normal volume, exacerbating the situation.
Australia
The Australian wet blue ox market remained stable with minor fluctuations. Grade A prices were mostly unchanged, except for the 14-18kg category, which rose from $31 to $33 by mid-June. The 23-27kg category increased to $49.50 from $45. Grade B saw more variation, with the 14-18kg category dropping from $25 to $21, while others, like 18-23kg and 23-27kg, saw modest increases. Grade C prices were stable, with slight increases in the 23-27kg and 27-31kg categories to $32 and $37.50, respectively.
Bangladesh
The Bangladeshi government and leather sector set Eid-ul-Azha prices for salted cow rawhides at Tk55-60/ft2 in Dhaka and Tk50-55 outside. Mohiuddin Ahmed Mahin, president of the Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leathergoods and Footwear Exporters Association, announced the new rates. Prices for castrated goat hides are Tk20-25/ft2, and goat hides are Tk18-20. This year’s prices have increased from last year’s rates, with a minimum price of Tk1,200 in Dhaka and Tk1,000 outside.
Brazil
The average price of fresh hides fluctuated slightly, closing at R$0.95/kg by the end of the month. Zebu hides remained between R$0.65-1.05/kg, while Gaucho hides stayed consistent at R$1.10-1.20/kg. Wet blue and crust hides also maintained stable prices, with Grade TR1 wet blue at $0.66/kg. Despite stable prices, the market faced significant challenges with weak domestic leather sales, high stocks, and the average price of an arroba at R$215.00 by the end of June.
Chile
The Chilean hide market remained consistently flat, with no changes in prices reported. TR1 hides held steady at $0.80/ft2 for full substance and $0.70 for 16mm+, while TR2 and TR3 hides stayed at $0.70 and $0.60/ft2 for full substance, and $0.60 and $0.50 for 16mm+, respectively.
China
In May, China’s rawhide imports (>16 kg) fell significantly, with a 21.62% drop in weight, 20.37% in pieces, and 21.48% in value compared to April. US rawhide imports saw steeper declines of 32.38% in weight, 30.55% in pieces, and 31.90% in value, yet still made up over 35% of China’s imports. Conversely, China’s wet blue hide imports overall decreased by 6.75% in weight and 5.79% in value, but imports from the US rose by 16.90% in weight and 16.97% in value, constituting 18.59% of total weight and 25.65% of total value.
Colombia
Salted hides maintained their prices at $0.40/kg for 26/28kg and $0.50/kg for 30/32kg. Wet blue hides also held steady, with TR1/TR2 (20/22mm+) priced at $0.42/ft2 and TR3 at $0.34/ft2.
Finland
The price for cow hides remained consistent at $1.00/kg throughout the month. Similarly, bull hides with an average green weight of 34kg and up were priced at $1.10/kg, with no fluctuations reported.
France
Veal skins larger than 13kg remained high, with luxury selections at €6.00- €6.50/kg and black and white at €5.50-€6.00/kg. Smaller selections ranged from €4.00-€4.30/kg. French cow hide prices were stable, with Bretagne 32kg and up at €0.95-€1.00/kg, and under 32kg at €0.85-€0.90/kg.
Central French cow prices were €0.90-€0.95/kg for 32kg and up, and €0.75-€0.80/kg for under 32kg. Bulls weighing 37kg and down held at €0.90- 0.95/kg in Central, and €1.10-1.20/kg in Bretagne. Bulls 37kg and up were €1.20-1.25/kg in Central and €1.25-1.30/kg in Bretagne.
Germany
German cow hide prices saw minor decreases, particularly in Northern Germany, where hides weighing 25kg and up fell to €0.60-0.65/kg, and those weighing 15-24kg remained stable at €0.70-0.75/kg.
In Southern Germany, larger cow hides (40kg and up) decreased slightly to €0.88-0.95/kg, while the 30-39kg category held steady at €0.75-0.80/kg. Northern German hides (30.0-39.0kg) priced at €0.95-1.00/kg, and those in the 40.0-49.0kg range at €0.90-0.95/kg. In Southern Germany, the prices for heavier bulls (50+ kg) remained steady at €1.25-1.28/kg. Smaller-sized bulls from Poland and Spain were priced at around €0.90/kg. Northern German heifers (25kg and up) held at €0.80-0.85/kg, while those in the 15-24kg range were steady at €0.95/kg. Southern German heifers showed no price movement, with the 40kg and up category at €1.00- 1.05/kg and the 30-39kg category at €1.10-1.15/kg.
Greece
Greek lamb skins in the 70/20/10 category consistently held their prices at $110-125/dozen, while lamb skins in the C2 category stayed within the $35-45/ dozen range.
India
Indian buffalo hide market remained stable with no fluctuations in prices. Crust buffalo hides, in both the 1.4-1.6mm and 0.9-1.1mm categories, consistently held their prices at $0.50- 0.55/ft2 and $0.40-0.45/ft2, respectively.
Iran
Iranian mutton skins, categorised as AB, consistently held their price at $95/dozen, while 2B mutton skins remained at $65/dozen, and super mutton skins at $35/dozen. Medium-sized goatskins also stayed stable, priced at $11-12/dozen.
Italy
The Italian veal skins weighing 18kg and up held firm at €3.50-3.80/kg, and those under 18kg priced at €3.00-3.30/kg. For cows, prices initially weakened slightly at the beginning of the month, with Italian cow hides priced at €0.50-0.52/kg.
However, prices firmed up mid-month and stabilised, consistently ranging between €0.50- 0.55/kg. Italian bull hides were steady with average green weights of 40kg and up consistently priced at €0.90/kg.
Netherlands
Dutch veal skin prices saw a drop early in the month, particularly for smaller sizes. Prices for 12.5kg veal skins decreased to €3.80-4.30/kg, while the larger 16.5kg veal skins maintained their prices at €5.00- 5.50/kg. Larger veal skins continued to find a market in high-end leather goods, with prices confirmed at €5.20-5.30/kg. Cow hides firmed up to €0.60-0.65/kg as the month progressed.
New Zealand
New Zealand wet blue ox hides were consistently priced at $47/piece for 20-24kg, $54/piece for 24-27kg, and $61/piece for 27+ kg selections. Wet blue heifers held steady at $36/piece for 14-18kg and $47/piece for 18-23kg selections. Similarly, wet blue cows remained stable at $25/piece for 14-18kg and $31/ piece for 18-23kg selections. There was no reported data for New Zealand lamb and sheep skins.
Nigeria
The Nigerian Cross lamb A stayed at €2.70/ft2, B at €2.35, C at €1.70, D at €1.10, and L2 at €0.70. Similarly, the goat hide market maintained consistent prices, with ABC category at €1.50/ft2, D at €1.10, E at €0.90, F at €0.80, and L at €0.60.
Norway
Norwegian cow hides, specifically the 17+ (average 24kg) category, consistently held their price at $1.50/kg. Similarly, bull hides with an average green weight of 34kg and up remained steady at $1.70/kg.
Pakistan
Pakistani buffalo hide prices were flat. Crust buffalo hides in the 1.3- 1.5mm category consistently held their price at $0.55/ft2, while those in the 0.9- 1.1mm category remained at $0.45/ft2.
Poland
Polish cow hides, particularly those weighing 26/27kg, consistently held their price at €0.60/kg. Similarly, Polish bull hides with an average green weight of 40kg and up remained steady at €0.90/kg.
Spain
Spanish hides remained relatively stable with Entre Fino doubleface at €11.00-12.00/piece, Entre Fino nappa at €14.00-15.00/piece, Merino doubleface at €12.00- 14.00/piece, Merino 80/20 1st/2nds at €9.00-10.00/ piece, Merino 2nds at €5.00-5.50/piece, Lachaune Lechal 90/10% 1st/2nd at €4.00-4.50/piece, Lechal 100% 1st at €3.50-4.00/piece, Lechal 90/10% 1st/2nd at €3.00/piece, and Tigrados original at €2.50/piece. Cow hides in Spain were consistently priced at €0.60/kg, and bull hides (40kg and up) held steady at €0.90/kg.
Sweden
Swedish cow hides consistently held their price at €1.10/kg. Similarly, bull hides with an average green weight of 34kg and up remained steady at €1.20/kg.
Turkey
Turkish hide prices were largely unchanged. Bulls were consistently within the range of $1.00-1.10/kg, while cow hides were priced between $0.65-0.70/kg. The new season lamb hides maintained their price range at $4.50-5.00/kg. Turkey’s leather goods exports have decreased by 24.7% compared to last year.
UK
The UK and Irish hide markets experienced notable stability in prices despite challenging demand. In the UK, ox and heifer prices saw reductions: the 36+ kg category in England dropped to £0.75/kg, the 31-35.5kg category was at £0.74/kg, and the 26-30.5kg category decreased to £0.69/kg. Similar trends were in Ireland, with the 36+ kg category at €0.79/kg, and the 31-35.5kg category falling to €0.70/kg. The UK lamb and sheep markets remained flat, with sheep skins priced between £1.00-1.50/ piece, and hoggets ranging from £1.75-2.30/piece.
US
The Heavy Texas steers market remained steady with minor fluctuations. Prices were stable at $21.00 for 62/64lbs selections but softened to $20.50 by month’s end, with lows of $20.00 and highs of $21.00 for 64/66lbs. Branded steers held at $21.00 for 64/66lbs, and branded heifers at $18.00 for 52/54lbs. Heavy native steers and heifers ranged from $28.00 to $30.00 for 62/64lbs.
Vietnam
For the week ending 20 June, Vietnam purchased 88,200 wet blue hides, significantly contributing to the 207% increase in wet blue sales from the previous week. Additionally, net sales of wet blue splits for the week ending 13 June saw 75,600 splits destined for Vietnam, with exports totalling 75,400lbs.
