Tough times at Dr Eberle

15 July 2003

German leather chemical manufacturers, Dr Eberle GmbH & Cie, have become another casualty of the global slowdown in the leather industry. The company has become insolvent. It is still owned by Dr Reinhard Eberle, the fourth generation of the family connected with the business. However, staff at the company are currently working on a restructuring plan to save the business or re-emerge as a different entity. They are still offering a range of leather chemicals. Dr Eberle were founded in 1875 and the business was based in the German town of Reutlingen. They established their own production facilities in 1912 and up until recently 90% of their business was exported all over the world.
