South African capacity utilisation in 2007

8 February 2008

Statistics South Africa reports that the South African leather industry operated at 76.9% of its total capacity in 2007, compared with 79.3% in 2006. In comparison, South Africa's manufacturing sector operated at 86.1% capacity last year.

The main reason given by leather industry companies for them not operating at full capacity in 2007 was a shortage of raw materials.
