Silvateam increase syntan capacity

17 April 2007

Silvateam group built new plants in 2006 for the production of synthetic tannins. The two new production lines launched, one located in San Michele Mondovì (Italy) and the other in La Escondida (Argentina), will increase the global production capacity of synthetic tannins by 5,000 tons per year, to a total of 20,000 tons. The quality of Silvateam synthetic tannins, produced in entirely computerized plants using the highest quality raw materials, has found a very favourable feedback from the market in the last few years, and has established the trademark Silvateam in both the South American and the Asian markets. In particular, the San Michele Mondovì plant, where the headquarters are located, will reach a total production of near 40,000 tons in 2007 which will comprise synthetic tannins, tanning oils and other auxiliaries, becoming one of the largest plants dedicated to tanning chemicals in the world. The tanning chemical market has been Silvateam's core business for more than 150 years. Capacity and productivity expansion has been the only solution to the continuous market demands of quality together with increasing pressure from raw material costs. With these increases of capacity, over recent years Silvateam have succeeded in passing only a part of the rise suffered upstream on raw materials to their own clients.
