Nike increase production

16 July 2002

Nike are planning to increase sports goods production in Thailand this year by 20% compared with US$600 million last year. As a result, Thai-made Nike shoes would represent 18% of Nike's overall shoe production subcontracted to various countries worldwide (up from 8-10%). Although Thai-made shoes are twice the price of those from China and Indonesia, 'the demand for Thai-made sporting goods persists because of product quality and efficient management', said Narong Chokwatana, adviser to the Pan Group who make shoes for Nike, Marks & Spencer and Clarks.
