New tannery for Ileri Deri

Ileri Deri have built a new 11,000 sq m tannery on a single floor in the Corlu tannery zone. Goat and sheep were tanned at another factory but the Corlu unit will focus on cow and steer hides, with a capacity of about 20 tons daily. There will be additional capacity for 3,000 ovine skins with both units running simultaneously. 'In effect, there are two tanneries designed to modern European standards', Ileri's owner, Nubar Terziyan, stated. Drums are imported from Valero and total investment is around $5-6 million. Asked why he chose this time to invest, corporate partner, Jilbert Sel, said that they wanted to benefit from increased business over the next three years in cow leathers and shoe uppers in natural grain and aniline finishes. As capacity builds, approximately 80% will be shoe upper leathers and the rest for bags, belts and small leathergoods. The choice in shoe leathers is now close to the bumper harvest of colours that garment makers offer. Ileri offer more than 50 different finishes, colours and laser-worked leathers for shoes. They attribute the astounding array mainly to enhanced technology in polyurethane finishing. Few businesses in the Turkish leather sector cover the scope and spectrum of Ileri Deri. Five companies comprise this group which supplies finished leather hides and shoe upper machinery to local and export customers. Comprehensive technical back-up clinches many deals. Annual turnover for the group exceeds $25 million and machinery sales are about $10 million.
