Chemtan E-68 is a modified phenolic syntan with extremely low free formaldehyde and phenol levels. It is suitable for use in sport shoe and automotive leathers with low formaldehyde content requirements. Chemtan E-68 has excellent lightfastness and provides a high level of filling, softening and bleaching. Leather dyeings are more level when Chemtan E-68 is used. When used in neutralisation Chemtan E-68 increases grain filling and tightening. Applying Chemtan E-68 in the retan will result in further filling and improved dye levelness and penetration. It can also improve the penetration of extracts and resins thus preventing the grain from being overloaded. Using Chemtan E-68 after the fatliquor will improve penetration and diminish the possibility of oil spots on the surface. Chemtan F-95 finish emulsion produces a unique surface effect. Varying degrees of pull-up are possible with Chemtan F-95. When used on reverse suede an attractive matt finish can be achieved which results in upgrading of the leather. Chemtan F-95 does not negatively influence water resistance. In the production of barnyard resistant leathers Chemtan F-95 improves the resistance to sulfuric acid. Chemtan M-88 inorganic retanning agent greatly improves the fullness and tightness of all types of leathers. It is particularly useful for filling empty areas in the belly. Chemtan M-88 is typically applied during the chrome retan. The addition of Chemtan M-88 with the chrome feed is recommended. If chrome retanning is not possible Chemtan M-88 should be added just prior to neutralisation. Chemtan N-43RSL is a high purity grade of magnesium oxide with additives for temperature controlled alkali release. This product is designed for, single dry feed, chrome basification. The controlled alkali release results in a smooth even pH rise. Chemtan N-34RSL can significantly simplify the process of basification. Staining due to pH spiking is virtually eliminated and colour uniformity within a lot is greatly improved. Chemtan R-111 is a polymer dispersion that improves grain tightness and buffing characteristics. At higher levels firmer tempered leathers can be produced. When used in the neutralisation Chemtan R-111 improves the tightness of the grain. Applying Chemtan R-111 at the end of a retan improves the buffing qualities of the leather resulting in short uniform nap. Chemtan R-124 is a blend of aliphatic and polymer retanning agents and is useful in filling and tightening leathers. When used ahead of neutralisation a tighter grain is achieved and empty belly areas are filled. Additionally, Chemtan R-124 can be added just prior to the main fatliquor in cases where more filling is necessary. Chemtan R-125 modified melamine resin improves the appearance of the grain enamel by minimising grain defects and enhancing surface lustre. This performance is helpful in the production of high quality aniline finished leathers. Chemtan R-125 is typically applied in a fresh bath after fatliquoring. Chemtan S-40 is a cost effective post treatment for the production of water resistant leathers. Chemtan S-40 will significantly increase the dynamic water resistance of leathers that have only marginal water resistance. It imparts a slightly rich surface feel and has a minimal darkening effect. Leather temper is not affected. Chemtan S-40 is an effective tool for tanners making water resistant leathers due to its ability to dramatically increase Maeser flex results and lower static water absorption of failing lots. In many cases an application level of 2-3g/ft2 is all that is required to obtain satisfactory results. Due to the low viscosity of this product it can be applied as it is using a rollcoater or spray equipment. Chemtan Unhairing Assist FR-62 improves the efficiency of the hair removal process. The solubility of the lime is increased resulting in a more uniform swelling of the hide. This controlled swelling minimises fat wrinkles and drawn grain. The removal of scud and fine hair is greatly improved as is layout and yield. Chemol 404 dye penetrant reduces stratification and improves fatliquor stability. In dyeing, Chemol 404 is added prior to the dye and run for 20 minutes to improve penetration. When dyes of varying penetration rates are used Chemol 404 is added directly with the dye feed. For oil stabilisation, adding Chemol 404 as part of the fatliquor feed greatly improves the emulsion stability. Chemol 411 dispersing and degreasing agent is suitable for use in the production of water resistant leathers. Chemol 411 provides good degreasing, wetting back, and dispersing properties when used during or after neutralisation. It can be used with water resistant fatliquors to stabilise the emulsion and improve penetration. Capping with metal salts will render Chemol 411 non-hydrophilic. Chemol 520 is a highly emulsified lecithin based fatliquor which is suitable for all types of leathers. It provides good internal lubrication and excellent grain lubrication. The leathers produced with Chemol 520 are soft and have a silky handle. Chemol 522 is a blend of synthetic and natural oils recommended for use on lightweight leathers such as garment and upholstery. Chemol 522 produces soft low density leathers with a silky surface feel. Due to its high fixation Chemol 522 is particularly suitable for the production of washable leathers. Chemol 522 can be applied during neutralisation, retanning, or main fatliquoring operations. Chemol 524 is a fatliquor used in the production of soft leather, where low density and fluffy feel is desired. This product produces a very uniformly clean grain making it especially useful in the production of white and full aniline coloured leathers. It is particularly well suited for athletic and milled leathers where a uniform milling pattern is desired.
