Lineapelle Asia cooperation

15 October 2003

APLF Ltd and the CLIA are to join forces with the organisers of Lineapelle Asia. Salvatore Mercogliano, managing director of Lineapelle said: 'I am delighted that we are working together with our friends at APLF Ltd. They have the necessary infrastructure to ensure that this show is a success, and also the CLIA is the most important leather association in China that guides the development and advancement of the leather industry in China.' In a strategic move to assist the international leather industry in the Guangdong province of China, Lineapelle, the Asia Pacific Leather Fair Ltd (APLF) and the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) together with the Guangzhou Municipal Government and other important organisations are collaborating on the new Lineapelle Asia show. The fair is due to be held from November 27-29, 2003, at the Guangzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center. So far the event has attracted around 100, mainly Italian companies, to exhibit. Visitors targeted to attend the show include manufacturers of shoes, leathergoods, garments and upholstery importers and exporters, and department store buyers. During the press launch of the collaboration Agha Saiddain, president of the Pakistan Tanners' Association (Northern Zone), raised some concern. He said that it would be difficult for national pavilions from countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh and India to be present at Lineapelle Asia. The Lineapelle organisers have a policy of exhibiting companies by product and not by country at their show in Italy. This policy will be the same for Lineapelle Asia. Some countries have difficulty in obtaining governmental financial support if they do not exhibit as country pavilions.
