Leather Industrial park plan

1 January 2002

The municipal authorities in Ho Chi Minh City in southern Vietnam have called on local leather industry companies to establish a leather industry industrial park, train skilled employees in the footwear industry and develop a livestock base in order to secure supplies of hides, according to the Vietnam News Agency. The demand for finshed leather by leathergoods producers in the city is expected to total 33,800 tonnes a year by 2005, considerably more than the 18,000 tonnes likely to be produced by local leather producers. Footwear producers are also being requested to be more sensitive to the types of footwear being demanded by the market.
