IULTCS - Leather technology with a business vision

21 May 2002

The next IULTCS Congress (XXVII) will be held in Cancun, Mexico, from May 28 to June 1, 2003. These biennial congresses are undoubtedly the leather industry's most important technical meetings. The International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies is a world organisation of professional societies created in London in 1897. It currently gathers 13 national societies representing more than 2,500 individuals. In order to foster cooperation between member societies, the IULTCS supports the advancement in leather science and technology, forms commissions for special studies and establishes international testing methods for leather and related materials. In a little more than a century, the Union has organised 26 congresses in 16 different countries on the five continents, the most recent one of which took place in Cape Town, South Africa, in 2001. Mexico will be the host for the first time in 2003. 'The city of Cancun is located on the Mayan Route, which is an ancient mystic pilgrimage for the search of oneself. This is the spirit of the invitation to Cancun: to discover scientific and technological paths that will allow the safe and secure establishment of leather industries. This is the Prehispanic American alchemy that seeks to inspire the leather chemists and technicians of the world.' The theme for the 27th edition of the IULTCS Congress is 'Leather Technology with Business Vision' and the objective is to establish the work of leather professionals into practical applications with a business vision that will provide global benefits that may help the companies and institutions. The XXVII Congress of the IULTCS will have six different sessions: conservation and beamhouse; tanning; re-tanning, dyeing and fatliquoring; finishing; environment and mechanical processes and machinery.
