Italian region invests in Vietnam’s leather and footwear sector

13 November 2009

The Italian Economic Promotion Agency for the region of Tuscany announced on November 11 that it is to invest €250,000 ($350,000) of mainly EU funds in a project to develop Vietnam’s leather and footwear industries.

The project, set for 2010, is under a cooperation framework between Tuscany’s Economic Promotion Agency and the Vietnam Leather and Footwear Association. Ninety percent of the project’s budget will come from the European Commission (EC).
The project is part of a series of initiatives on developing economic, trade and cultural cooperation between Tuscany and Vietnam as well as creating opportunities for businesses from the central Italian region to penetrate the Vietnamese market.
With a strong leather and footwear industry of its own, Tuscany sees Vietnam as an ideal destination to do business. Under the project, a group of Vietnamese entrepreneurs will visit the Italian region next March.
