GDS defies difficult retail climate

5 October 2004

The GDS International footwear fair, which took place in Düsseldorf from 16 -19 September, received 42,000 visitors, 5% up on last edition. Organisers claimed: 'With this result, GDS defies the difficult retail climate and proves itself to be a positive economic barometer.' Organisers noted a significant increase in the number of visitors from abroad, and more specifically, from eastern and central Europe. In the fashion and trends forum, Brazilian designer Mauricio Medeiros showcased his latest footwear range. New trends for spring/summer in ladies' shoes included a more rounded shape and highly decorative features such as Swarovski gems. Meanwhile, men's footwear tended towards the extravagant, incorporating finest baby crocodile or fabric and leather variations. The next edition of GDS will be 17-20 March.
