CSIRO Research Centre closes

21 November 2005

The decision by CSIRO Textile and Fibre Technology to phase out leather research was taken some time ago and the industry was notified of this in July 2004. This decision was not taken lightly and has been a gradual process in response to dwindling industry support for research over the past few years. As a result, leather research stopped in September 2005. However, the fee-for-service consulting and testing activities are being retained as long as they can be delivered in a cost effective manner that complies with competitive neutrality guidelines. Catherine A Money has retired but intends to do some consulting work and can be contacted on +61 3 98193406 or at c.money@bigpond.net.au Rita Siekris, who made a significant contribution to the LRC, is also leaving TFT. Staff at Clayton will continue to work on textiles as part of CSIRO Textile and Fibre Technology. For consulting and testing services please contact Mark Hickey, industry services manager; mark.hickey@csiro.au; tel: +61 3 9545 2108, fax: +61 3 9545 2109.
