CLIA letter to the press

31 October 2002

The rapid development of the leather industry in China, especially after the country's accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), has resulted in the emergence of many leather manufacturing and related finished products exhibitions and events in China. While this has contributed to some extent to the industry's growth, it has also led to a lot of duplication and poor quality events. Recently a number of event organisers had, prior to obtaining the consent of the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), listed the CLIA as an organiser or co-organiser for their event, causing confusion and queries in the industry locally and abroad. In order to create an orderly exhibition environment in China, the CLIA would like to proclaim the following: International events organised by the CLIA in China are: * All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE) * China International Footwear Fair (CIFF) * Moda Shanghai * MATECH China Other than the above listed, the CLIA does not organise, co-organise, sponsor or support any other international exhibitions in China. The CLIA seeks to create a conducive market environment for industry players from China and abroad to interact and conduct business and will work hard to ensure the orderly development of the leather industry in China.
